On 23th September 2022, the Scientific Senate will organize a new conference within the INOVALIMENT program.
The topic of the conference: “The influence of the vegan-vegetarian diet among children on the development of the future adult”.
Vegetarian diets are on the rise, even among children. Although parents think they are feeding them healthy, recent studies show that such nutrition is not enough to support adequate growth and a harmonious and healthy development of children.
The results of these studies will be debated within a new INOVALIMENT conference, organized by the Scientific Senate of the Dan Voiculescu Foundation, in partnership with Kilostop Junior Clinic.
The GUEST SPEAKER of this conference is Dr. Małgorzata Desmond, dietician, specialist in nutrition medicine and the author of the first study on the effects of a vegetarian diet on children.
Dr. Desmond graduated Nutrition Medicine at the University of West London and holds a Master Degree in Dietetics at the Medical University of Warsaw, and further specialist training at Imperial College London and the Harvard School of Public Health.
She also holds a PhD in Nutrition, Epidemiology and Child Health from University College London.
She is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute of Child Health at University College London and she is involved in research into the diet and health of children following a vegetarian or vegan diet. Since 2010, she has been providing nutrition consultations, dietetic medicine and intensive nutritional therapy programs in Poland at a private nutritional medicine clinic in Warsaw.
In 2011-2012, he became a co-founder of the first Nutritional Medicine Center in Poland, in the Carolina Medical Center. At the same time, she became the laureate of a competition organized by Warsaw City Hall, for the co-financing of 2 public health projects, in the field of cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention, in which, in 2011-2013, together with other doctors, she supported 36 of lectures for the inhabitants of Warsaw.
She specializes in nutritional therapy for diseases of the digestive system, autoimmune and cardiometabolic diseases and nutritional counseling for vegans and vegetarians, especially children.
As part of her doctoral thesis at the Institute of Child Health, University College London – she studied the influence of diet on the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in children in the Department of Paediatrics of the Institute “Monument – Children’s Health Center”.
Dr. Desmond is constantly expanding his knowledge by regularly attending lectures and contributing to scientific publications. In 2021, she published the results of his PhD in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
