A Device that reduces fuel consumption, invented by a Romanian, presented at the Geneva Exhibition

A device that reduces fuel consumption and noxious emissions will be presented by inventor Corneliu Birtok Băneasa at the International Exhibition of Inventions, which takes place in Geneva on April 13-17.

Named “thermal deflector”, the invention of the automotive engineer from Deva is designed to equip cars for summer time and contributes to reducing engine power losses caused by high outdoor temperatures.

“The integrated thermal deflector mounts on the intake manifold to the engine, protects the air filter and prevents hot air from reaching the intake manifold. It is known that during summer, cars work at optimal performence in the morning, but in the afternoon, if a car is in traffic and the asphalt is hot, it is possible to exerience a loss of power to the engine, so one needs to push harder on the throttle to run the way it did during the morning, using the heat deflector to eliminate this inconvenience and implicitly to reduce fuel consumption, “said on Wednesday, for AGERPRES, the inventor Corneliu Birtok Băneasă.

He explained that the use of his invention reduces the air temperature in the intake manifold to the engine, which makes it possible to optimize its operation and reduce fuel consumption by aproximately 7%, while having a decrease in the noxious emissions.

The thermal deflector presented by Corneliu Birtok Băneasa is an invention that has been tested in use since 2010 when it was implemented for the first time on cars and buses of a local transport company from Alba Iulia.

The egnineer, Corneliu Birtok Băneasă, is now a PhD student of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara in the Materials Engineering specialization.

Romania will be represent at this year’s edition of the International Geneva Exhibition with 30 inventions.
